 WE CAN’T AFFORD
 DANIELLE SMITH
 & THE UCP

The UCP has cost you more to live your life. While they will blame global economic conditions, it's their incompetence and poor management that has made many essentials of life – way more expensive.

These are bad policies rooted in incompetence and misaligned with the values of everyday Albertans. Why would the UCP do this then?! So they can pay for tax breaks for big corporations and their friends.

It's time we expose how the UCP is making life unaffordable for you and your family.

Let’s ensure every Albertan knows why we can’t afford the UCP.

THE UCP’S POOR MANAGEMENT AND HARMFUL CHOICES HAVE MADE LIFE MORE EXPENSIVE…

 AND WE'VE
 GOT THE
 RECEIPTS

INCOME TAXES
UP $250 - $1,450
PER FAMILY PER YEAR
(SINCE 2020)
BASED ON A TWO INCOME HOUSEHOLD

Personal income tax rates used to be tied to inflation so that they could stay relatively constant. Well, thanks to the UCP - your income taxes are now “de-indexed” meaning your taxes are up even more with inflation. This will cost Albertans $650 million by the end of this year, 2022!

Provincial
property taxes & school fees up
costing Albertans $117 million

The UCP said to themselves “You know what? We should increase the burden on Albertans.” That has resulted in over $117 million dollars more being downloaded on to Alberta families for education property tax and school fees. The UCP has also increased municipal borrowing costs, which means your property taxes will go up even more.

Insurance
premiums up 34%
Between 2020 and 2023

The UCP has removed caps on insurance rates. That, along with other changes, has resulted in much higher rates. All in, between 2020 and 2023, insurance premiums - including auto, home, and other insurance products - will have gone up over 34% in Alberta!

Electricity Rate cap now gone Meaning rates are up, up & up

Get this: for both gas and electricity, Albertans saw massive bill increases after the UCP removed the cap on rates. Then, the UCP introduced a gas rebate which only applies NEXT winter.

Enjoying our provincial parks now costs you more

Thanks to the UCP, enjoying our beautiful publicly-owned provincial parks and lands will now cost you a lot more. The UCP has decided to charge a $20-$30 public lands camping fee, they also increased camping fees by $1-$3 per night, doubled camping reservation change fees. And now, going to Kananaskis (which was free before UCP) costs you $90 per year for a family! It's fees on top of fees on top of fees. Not to mention, no new money has been allocated to park operations, security, or maintenance.

Post-secondary tuition up
7% - 104%
In just one year!

Want to study at one of Alberta’s post-secondary institutions? Well, it’s gonna cost you more. A LOT more. In just one year, the UCP has increased tuition costs between 7% and 104% meaning Albertans are paying more than… wait for it… $149 million in post-secondary tuition increases. IN JUST ONE YEAR. This certainly deserves a failing grade.

 THERE’S MORE…

SENIORS AND ALBERTANS WITH DISABILITIES ARE GETTING LESS WHILE INFLATION SOARS

Under the UCP’s plan, a low-income senior couple will lose $900/year. Albertans on AISH — the most vulnerable among us — will lose $3,500/year.

The UCP also introduced a $100 provincial fee for a medical for seniors over 75 years to renew their license every two years.
